Living in the Round

This weekend took us north to the Mt. Shasta area.  Not only was the mountain beckoning, but so was the luxury yurt we booked for the long Memorial Day weekend.  A traditional yurt is a portable, round structure used by Turkish or Mongolian nomads.  A luxury yurt is a cozy home in the round with all the amenities you could ever need or want.

A stop at Sierra Nevada Brewery provided inspiration for the trip
Eddy Creek Retreat at Mt. Shasta
We stayed at a creek side yurt, tucked away in Weed, California. The yurt was nothing short of incredible.  A perfect relaxing get-away for four people looking to forget their "real" lives for a weekend.  The town of Weed has a few area provisions (Weed Street Ale House home of Mt. Shasta Brewing; a meat market off of College Ave; and a small grocery store in town).  You can also check out the city of Mt. Shasta for more grocery and restaurant options.

The owners spared no expense on the yurt.  The deck wraps around the structure, there is a fire pit, charcoal BBQ and plenty of seating.  Inside, you'll find a well-stocked kitchen, smaller yurt with a bathroom, wood burning stove and a heater for the cold nights.  Best of all, peeking through the trees is a view of Mt. Shasta.  If you're looking for luxury camping - this is your spot.

There is so much to do in the Mt. Shasta area.  Shasta-Trinity National Forest is everywhere you look and the hiking and other outdoor activities are endless.  It's one of the more beautiful places I have been and I'll absolutely be coming back.  And - will be staying in the yurt - hands down.

The yurt rents for $110 a night in the winter and $120 in the summer months.  It's a bargain for the serenity and peacefulness you'll find waiting for you.  For more details on the Eddy Creek Retreat at Mt. Shasta check out their listing on VRBO.com.  Don't tell too many people though...let's keep this amazing place our little secret...

Visit Pacific Yurts for more yurt vacations and information on buying your own if you fall in love with them as much as we did!
