Take the day off and get to Yosemite...now!

I can't say enough about Yosemite National Park.  Since my first visit a few years ago, I have been enamored with its beauty and incredibleness.  I've only scratched the surface of the park and it makes me excited to go back each time.  Anyone who lives in Northern California who hasn't visited the park is sorely missing out!

Last weekend we were spoiled with a 70 degree day on the valley floor.  An ambitious hike up to Yosemite Falls was quickly thwarted by the rushing water fall and the remaining snow pack still on the ground from their record storm a week and a half ago.  Still, a walk around the valley did not disappoint.  Great water falls, spectacular views of Half Dome and a beer at the Ahwahnee Hotel made for one of the best afternoons anyone could ask for.

Anyone going in or out of the Valley Floor on Wawona Road is also treated to the magical view at the Tunnel View vista point.  It's a must-stop spot - and you just hope there is an open parking space so you can jump out and take pictures with the rest of the crowd.

It's the perfect time to head to Yosemite.  The water falls are raging, the weather is getting nicer and the masses won't start arriving until the summer.  There is still a lot of snow from the recent storm, but bring your snow shoes and you'll be treated to some of the best winter hiking around.  See the next post for a must-do snow shoe hike in the park...you're in for a treat!

PS - if you're headed to the Valley Floor from 140 through Mariposa, be mindful of a large rock slide as you get closer to the park.  The road becomes one-way and I imagine when the busy season picks up, it's going to make your trip a little longer.
